Companies on a sustainability journey generate double the profits compared to conventional companies.  For example, the LAMP index in the chart is a group of 60 companies that use Triple Bottom Line thinking (People, Planet, Profit) throughout their companies.  Full Sustainability includes all three bottom lines, not just “green”.  In fact, it’s the “people” side of Sustainability that provides the ideas, the passion, that makes it go (and makes companies thrive).

Why a consortium?  Because a consortium is the

  • quickest,
  • most effective, and
  • least costly way to implement sustainability.

A Sustainability Consortium is a Peer Learning Structure, consisting of about 12 non-competing organizations, who come together to learn from each other (and invited presenters) how to make Sustainability work.  Once started, a consortium allows new members only by unanimous vote.  In a Peer Learning Structure,  practitioners work with their counterparts in the other organizations to improve the performance of their departments.  There are SIGs for purchasing, sales and marketing, operations, accounting, senior executives, etc.  Since there are no competitors, people can create and share valuable new programs openly.

NW Sustainability Consortium will be modeled after a Lean Manufacturing consortium which started in Toronto 18 years ago.  More than half of the original founding companies are still members of that consortium! However, our consortium will focus on Sustainability, not Lean, and include organizations across a wide spectrum of industries, not just manufacturers.  Click here for more.

There’s no risk, because there is no long-term contract to sign.

We are starting several consortiums in the Portland/SW Washington metro area.   Click on the Upcoming Events tab for more information about a consortium near you.
